    Service Mandate of the ENSI Board to ENSI: 2020 to 2023

    The ENSI Board has set out strategic objectives in the following areas for the regulatory activities of ENSI during the years 2020 to 2023: Operation of nuclear installations, shutting down and decommissioning of nuclear installations, radiation protection and emergency preparedness, disposal of radioactive waste, information and communication, personnel policy and financial policy.

    ENSI Board – new appointments

    The Federal Council has appointed Martin Zimmermann as the new Vice Chair of the ENSI Board with effect from 1 September 2019. Prof Andreas Abegg has also been appointed to the ENSI Board.

    Marc Kenzelmann appointed new ENSI Director General

    On 28 August 2019, the ENSI Board elected Marc Kenzelmann as the new Director General of the Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate ENSI. He will take office on 1 July 2020. The current Deputy Director of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy SFOE will succeed Hans Wanner.

    Federal Council appoints Tanja Manser as a new member of the ENSI Board

    A year after Jürg Schmid retired from the ENSI Board, the Federal Council has selected Tanja Manser as his successor. The ENSI Board will therefore have six members from 1 January 2019.

    Werner Bühlmann to stand down from the ENSI Board

    Werner Bühlmann is due to stand down from the ENSI Board at the end of 2018. The 72 year-old cites his advancing years as the reason for his decision. While regretting his departure, the ENSI Board offer its sincere thanks for his contributions over the years.

    Monica Duca Widmer to replace Jürg Schmid as Vice Chair of the ENSI Board

    The Federal Council has appointed Monica Duca Widmer as the new Vice Chair of the ENSI Board. She succeeds Jürg Schmid, who is retiring at the end of 2017 after six years as Vice Chair of the strategic supervisory body. Jürg Schmid became a member of the ENSI Board in 2008.

    Andreas Schefer is the new Chief of Staff at ENSI

    The executive board of the Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate (ENSI) has named Andreas Schefer as the new Chief of Staff. The 48 year old lawyer is taking over from Felix Altorfer, who at the start of 2017 became Director of the Waste Management Division.

    The Swiss Federal Council appoints Martin Zimmermann as a new member to the ENSI Board

    From 01 April 2017, the ENSI Board will once again comprise seven members. The Federal Council appointed Martin A. Zimmermann as the successor to Karine Rausis. The 65-year old has more than 30 years experience in the nuclear reactor research field.
