Bilateral cooperation

Switzerland has ratified state treaties and bilateral agreements in the areas of nuclear safety and security. ENSI represents Switzerland in these bodies together with other federal authorities and cooperates in bilateral commissions with neighbouring countries and other relevant foreign regulatory authorities:

  • Commission franco-suisse de sûreté nucléaire et de radioprotection (CFS)
  • Commissione Italo-Svizzera per la cooperazione in materia di sicurezza nucleare (CIS)
  • Deutsch-Schweizerische Kommission für die Sicherheit kerntechnischer Einrichtungen (German-Swiss Commission DSK)
  • Nuklearinformationsabkommen Schweiz-Österreich (Swiss-Austrian nuclear information agreement)

    Commission franco-suisse 2026: cross-border cooperation continues in the interests of nuclear safety

    At the 35th plenary meeting of the Commission franco-suisse , held on 24 and 25 June 2026 in Spiez, in the canton of Bern, the French and Swiss delegations discussed recent developments in nuclear safety and set out the priorities for bilateral cooperation for the coming year.

    25th Austria–Switzerland bilateral meeting: discussion on deep geological disposal, radiation protection and current issues related to nuclear safety

    On 27 and 28 May 2026, the Austrian and Swiss delegations held their annual bilateral meeting, during which they exchanged information on various topics, including the progress of the Sectoral Plan for Deep Geological Repositories and radiological monitoring.

    Detailed exchange with the Polish Nuclear Regulatory Authority

    A high-ranking delegation from the Polish Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PAA) visited Switzerland from 17 to 19 November 2025. The programme included an exchange of experiences on regulatory activities, safety culture, research and deep geological disposal of radioactive waste.
