    Registration requirement for radioactive material to be transported via France

    All companies transporting radioactive material to or via France are required to register by autumn of this year. The French regulatory authority, ASN, has issued a notice to this effect, which came into force in summer 2016.

    In future, there are to be no further contradictions between neighbouring countries with regard to emergency measures in the immediate aftermath of serious nuclear accidents. Europe’s two most important bodies for nuclear oversight and radiation protection have developed the so-called HERCA-WENRA Approach in order to bring about harmonisation.

    US delegation interested in Swiss methods for waste management

    On Monday morning, members of the US Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board (US NWTRB) visited the Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate (ENSI) in Brugg. During their visit, they were particularly interested in the Swiss procedure as part of the Sectoral Plan for Deep Geological Repositories (SGT), and above all the integrated process for waste management work.

    Swiss and Iranian Safety Authorities Exchange Information on Civil Nuclear Safety

    Hans Wanner, Director General of the Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate, ENSI, and Chairman of the Western European Nuclear Regulators’ Association, WENRA, accompanied Swiss President Johann Schneider-Ammann on his trip to Iran over the weekend.     Switzerland nominated Vice-President of the next CNS Review Meeting

    A large majority of the Contracting Parties to the Convention on Nuclear Safety CNS have elected ENSI Deputy Director Georg Schwarz to be Vice-President of the 7th Review Meeting of the Convention. This will be held in spring 2017 in Vienna. It will enable Switzerland to contribute even more effectively to improving the CNS review.
