The Convention on Nuclear Safety sets internationally binding safety standards. By signing the Convention, 98 states undertake to submit a specific national report to the IAEA every three years on the status of implementation of the Convention. Switzerland is one of the founding states of the CNS and actively works to ensure that safety standards are maintained and strengthened.
By submitting its 10th national report to the IAEA, Switzerland demonstrates that it meets the requirement of Article 5 of the Convention. In their reports, the signatory states provide information on the following topics:
- nuclear facilities in operation
- legislation and regulatory framework
- national regulatory authority
- responsibility of the licensee or
- operator
- priority of safety
- financial and human resources
- human factors
- quality assurance
- safety assessment
- radiation protection
- emergency response
- siting, design, construction and
- operation of nuclear facilities
