Dr. Ralph Schulz

Director, Safety Analyses Division

Ralph Schulz studied mechanical engineering at the RWTH Aachen University specialising in thermodynamics and obtained his doctorate at the end of 1997 from the Laboratory for Energy Systems at ETH Zurich.

Following a period of three years with ALSTOM Power working on the development of combined cycle power plants, Ralph Schulz joined the former HSK in 2000. Initially he worked primarily on the Probabilistic Safety Analyses (PSA) required for nuclear power plants (NPPs) and also managed various projects.

In 2007, he was appointed Project and Group Manager with responsibility for projects associated with new NPPs in Switzerland.

At the beginning of 2009, he became Head of a new section called “New Nuclear Power Plants” where his responsibilities included the safety evaluations of the applications for new buildings.

In September 2009, he was appointed Director of the new Safety Analysis Division at ENSI.
