Hans-Jürgen Pfeiffer will not be standing for another period in office on the ENSI Board

The Swiss Federal Council will select a new member of the ENSI Board by the end of this year for the next term of office. Following his two terms in office, Hans-Jürgen Pfeiffer will no longer be serving on the Board. For reasons of age he is ending his work in the strategic and internal supervisory body of the Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate ENSI.

The ENSI Board regrets to hear this decision of his. “Hans-Jürgen Pfeiffer has made important contributions to the work of the ENSI Board, with the profound knowledge he has gained during his career in research and inspection”, says Anne Eckhardt, President of the ENSI Board. “In the name of the ENSI Board I express my thanks for his work and his great commitment. We will miss him.”

The radiation protection expert, now 72 years of age, has been a member of the ENSI Board since 2008. “With the setting up of ENSI, the reactor accident in Fukushima and the subsequent changes to the Swiss energy policy, I can look back on an exciting time, and I now wish to vacate the position so that the space is free for younger talents and new ideas”, says Hans-Jürgen Pfeiffer describing his decision. He has devoted special attention to the radiation protection at ENSI. “It is in a good state and can stand up well when compared internationally”, Hans-Jürgen Pfeiffer points out.

Hans-Jürgen Pfeiffer was selected by the Swiss Federal Council in 2007 to be one of the six members who were serving on the ENSI Board at that time. At the end of 2011 the Federal Council confirmed his appointment on the committee, which now numbers seven persons, for the term 2012 to 2015. Before the end of this year the Federal Council will appoint the members of the ENSI Board for the term 2016-2019.
