Executive Board
As part of ENSI’s regulatory activities, the Executive Board passes the necessary decrees and issues expert opinions, technical statements and guidelines. As a committee, it decides on which nuclear safety research projects should be supported. The Executive Board members are elected by the ENSI Board and form the operational management body.
Directorate
The Director General heads ENSI’s operational management body.
Staff of the Directorate
The Staff of the Directorate Division provide operational and strategic support to the Director General and the Executive Board. It functions as a link to the ENSI Board, coordinates contacts with the Federal Nuclear Safety Commission (NSC) and is a service centre for ENSI as a whole.
The division includes the sections:
- International Affairs and Research,
- Communication,
- Legal Affairs,
- Information Security
Resources
The Resources Division is responsible for finances, human resources management, information technology, infrastructure and administration. It provides information relevant to the management from the division and supports the Directorate, the Executive Board and the ENSI Board in the operational and strategic fulfilment of their tasks.
The division includes the following sections:
- Back Office,
- Finances,
- Human Resources,
- Information Technology and Operations.
The Personnel Commission is affiliated to the Resources Division.
Waste Management
The Waste Management Division is entrusted with the treatment, interim storage and deep geological disposal of radioactive waste and spent fuel. The transport of radioactive materials is also part of its area of responsibility.
The division includes the sections:
- Transports and Predisposal,
- Geology,
- Disposal and Analyses.
Nuclear Power Plants
The Nuclear Power Plants Division examines all the technical aspects of plant safety and is the contact for the organisational concerns of the operators.
The division includes the sections:
- Civil Engineering,
- Electrical Engineering,
- Mechanical Engineering,
- Site Inspection and Decommissioning,
- System Engineering.
Safety Analyses
The Safety Analyses Division is concerned with the examination of overall plant safety and with questions concerning the design of reactor components and the reactor core.
The division includes the sections:
- Deterministic analyses,
- Human and Organisational Factors,
- Probabilistic Safety Analyses and Accident Management,
- Reactor Core.
Radiation Protection
The Radiation Protection Division oversees the protection of nuclear installation personnel, the population and the surroundings of nuclear installations against ionising radiation. It deals with occupational radiological protection, dosimetry, radioactive emissions and environmental monitoring, measurement systems for monitoring radioactivity, radiological effects of accidents, emergency preparedness, as well as with the security and IT security of nuclear installations.
The division includes the sections:
- Occupational Radiation Protection,
- Nuclear and Cyber Security,
- Accident Consequences and Emergency Preparedness,
- Radiation Measurement.
